"The picture of Dorian Gray"
Hello guys, and welcome again to this blog. As you know I’m currently reading
“The picture of Dorian Gray”, I haven´t finished the book yet, but I’m so excited
with the book that I’m going to do a review of what I have read so far.
For those who don’t know, “The picture of Dorian Gray” is one of the
most famous books of Oscar Wilde, was published in 1890 and was very
controversial. The book is about Dorian Gray who influenced by the words of
Lord Henry Wotton, lead the young Dorian to a superficial world, that is more
important to be beautiful than to be good. And make anything to get it.
What I’ve read so far is very interesting, we first meet this Dorian
Gray who is very nice, especially with Basil (ignoring certain moments), his
friend, who makes this extraordinary portrait of Dorian. But after the talk of
Lord Henry and Dorian, is when Gray pays attention to the image and wants to do
anything to stay exactly as he look in the portrait. The way Lord Henry thinks
is awful for me, he only thinks about beauty, youth, to have a good time and
that kind of stuff. That way of seeing things, penetrates so strong in Dorian
Gray that, even falling in love, with Sibyl Vane, makes him to take bad
decisions (for example leaving her) and ending with the suicide of Sibyl. One
thing that got my attention is, even when Dorian realizes he has change, like,
literally because the portrait change, he still walk in the same path of Lord
Henry and his words.
The book have a lots of things that you can think of and give your
opinion. I give the book 3.5/5 stars (from what I've read so far), I hope I can
enjoy the rest of the book.
Hope you like this entrance, see you soon guys.
